USA President Joe Biden and others are claiming Hamas does not represent the Palestinians, but that is dangerously false.
The reality is that, if an election were held in Gaza or the Palestinian Authority, 58 percent of voters would elect Hamas. Further, 71 percent of Palestinians favor forming armed groups to murder Israelis according to a survey conducted by the Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research (PSR) on September 6-9.
Only 38 percent of Palestinians would vote for the ruling Fatah party, which 78 percent of voters want to replace (Gatestone Institute, Bassam Tawil, October 23, 2023).
Hamas was established in 1988 as an offshoot of the fundamentalist, Nazi-allied Muslim Brotherhood founded in the 1920s. It is not a creation of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, as is often claimed. In its charter, it declares its intention of wiping out Israel (Gatestone Institute, Daniel Greenfield, October 23, 2023).
